Stanley Parable

Platform: PC
Release: 2013
Genre: I'll get to that

This review is going to depart a bit from my usual formula because The Stanley Parable departs quite a lot of the usual formula for a game.

To start with, I can't really say that this falls into a genre that I'm familiar with. It's a first-person narrative driven exploration meta-game I suppose, but it lacks most of what would be used to call it a game. Maybe it's best classified as a walking-simulator? There's not really a plot, just choices that the player makes to follow the narrator or not to follow the narrator.

This game-like is very entertaining however, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I'd actually consider recommending it to people who are not really gamers because it's easy to control, very interesting and it might be a good place to bring someone into gamer culture. I know that seems odd, but this game is so charming that I think this may actually bring people into the fold.

I don't really know what else I can say about the game without giving it away, so I'll just say that I recommend it. I don't know that it's worth the $15 advertised on Steam, but I will say that the follow through exceeds any expectations that I had for the game. Go play the demo, it's free and separate from the main game while conveying the tone and style of the actual game. 10/10
