This is another case of accidentally waiting two months to write up a game I completed! As always, this review probably softened over time, but I think it's still valid. It's probably worthwhile to note that I didn't ever play the original, but I did watch some of it be played. Also, this review is only for the first game in the Reignited Trilogy. Anywho!

Visuals: This game actually looks great! They did a great job rebuilding this game and making it look almost exactly like I remember the original but with way higher resolution. Everything is still stylized and imaginative as it was before. It's pretty easy to read the language of the game as well, with enemies that you charge or burn being fairly easy to distinguish. The grass burns when you breathe fire which I think is an excellent touch. Everything here genuinely looks great!

Audio: The music is a bit repetitive, but as a remaster of a game from the early 2000's, that's to be expected. The sound clips that they could include back then were way shorter than what we're used to nowadays. The sound effects are also a bit repetitive, but again, I think that's expected. What's there for both is nice! Nothing is grating by any means, it just isn't as interesting or varied as it could be. I can't talk about the audio without mentioning the little robed dudes who hold the eggs. The balance on these guys is insane and they never shut the hell up. I caught most of them more than once just to avoid their stupid, loud taunt. I wish they didn't make noise after you caught them once. The voice acting is surprisingly solid for a game where the voice acting literally doesn't matter.

Plot: It sure is here. The big bad guy turned all of your fellow dragons to stone! I guess Spyro was looked over because he is still tiny comparatively. It's weird that there aren't other dragon children though, I guess they reproduce extremely slowly? But you save so many eggs... It seems weird is all I'm saying. Why don't the big dragons that you save help you out? Who knows. The plot is there at the beginning and then not built upon throughout the game. Which is fine to be fair. That seems to be common in these kinds of games.

Gameplay: It's a little dated, but still pretty fun! It's not the easiest game, I'm certain that I died several times in ways I could have avoided if I was paying more attention. I think my only issue here was flying. The controls here are so weird and un-intuitive. It's tough to control and the camera only makes that worse. I did everything in this game apart from the flying, that stuff is for the birds. Maybe I'll go back and finish? I dunno. Everything else in the game is fun, but the flying really sucks. Maybe I wasn't patient enough to try and learn how it works and the areas that you need to fly around, but it really was annoying.

This game was definitely a bit dated, but it was still a good time! I'll probably revisit the rest of the Reignited Trilogy at some point. There were no female dragons or voice actors which may have been ambiguous in the original, but it's pretty obvious they're all male in the remake. I would've liked the remaster to change that to be honest. I didn't notice it while playing, but my wife commented about it and I couldn't help but notice after she mentioned it. I suspect this was a remaster that was very faithful to the original, for better and worse. [8/10]
