Cornetto's conclusion!
Release: 2013
Studio: Rogue Pictures
Writers: Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg
I watched this movie when it first came out and didn't care for it very much, but my wife and I watched it again recently and my feelings definitely changed. Since this was a movie about a pub crawl, I approached my first viewing being sufficiently sauced myself, it seemed fitting. This time I watched the movie sober. Let me just say that it was a way better movie when viewed sober. All of the Edgar Wright movies seem to have subtle visual gags and nods at the rest of his films, and I really think that I missed them the first time I watched it.
This movie really seems to be going hard into the good, bad movie. Like the plot choices are very strange, but they are enjoyable. It seems like they tried to make a movie that was really campy and enjoyable and that's what they landed on. Before re-watching this movie, I thought it was by far the weakest of the "Cornetto Trilogy". After re-watching it I still think it was the weakest of the trilogy, but I think it belongs in the trilogy now. These films are all surprising and enjoyable in genuinely great ways. Shaun of the Dead is still my favorite of the three, but I do think that Hot Fuzz may very well be the better movie. Anywho, if you haven't seen this movie or didn't like it the first time you saw it, I would really recommend that you give this a fresh try.
