A remake of a GameCube classic! I played this game back roughly when it came out and I remember it being really hard. Is it any easier now?
Aesthetics: The game looks good for a Switch game! Which is to say it doesn't objectively look that good, but for such an underpowered console it looks great. Everything has been redone including textures and models of everything by the feel of it. The music was redone as well, it was nice revisiting some of these old tunes and introducing them to my wife. Phendrana Drifts is such a banger. The noises from the enemies were annoying, but they are hostile alien life so I suppose that was done on purpose?
Plot: You're stranded on an alien planet trying to track down the metroids. I think this is the direct sequel to Super Metroid? Anyway, you lose all your upgrades and you need to go back and forth across the zones to track down all of your bits and bobs.
Gameplay: First person shooter. Equal parts space archaeologist and death machine. I didn't really understand the importance of scanning when I played through when I was younger. The game really does a good job peppering hints throughout your exploration. I didn't really like all of the different HUDs, specifically the IR and Xray ones are hard to see through. I found it annoying when I couldn't see the layout of the room well in the visor that I needed to use to combat the enemies in the room effectively.
Overall I would say that the game was easier playing it as an adult. I found the hints in the game more easily and they included a hint system within the game to point you to where your next crucial upgrade is located. I really enjoyed my time with this game, even though it didn't age the most gracefully. Some of the backtracking was kind of nuts, just way too many enemies in rooms you need to travel through often.
