Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Developer/Publisher: Nintendo
Gameplay Stats: ~155 hours, 63.4% complete

Holy cow this game is crazy big. We thought Breath of the Wild was huge! And then Tears of the Kingdom comes along and adds another like 150% of the map. Was it a good addition?

Aesthetics: It's really hard to tease this apart from Breath of the Wild. Tears of the Kingdom is in the same engine, and the overworld map is largely the same. They have tweaked some parts to better segue into added features. I really liked the addition of caves, the depths, and the sky islands. This game, like many Nintendo games, punches above it's weight in terms of aesthetics. The music is really great when it's present and the visuals are quite strong also. There is a lot of personality on display here and the environments, enemies, and NPCs show off the different areas pretty well.

Plot: Pretty standard Zelda game here. The main point of the game is to find/save the princess. I will give a shoutout to the start of the game though, you do start fully powered and adventuring with Zelda to boot. I really liked how much more personality that Zelda showed in this game compared to Breath of the Wild, but I wish more characters were deeper in general. Lots of tropes on display here.

Gameplay: I think it's safe to say that I enjoyed this game. I wouldn't have put over 100 hours into a game in a month if I didn't like it. I still think that they could've improved the controls quite a bit, particularly how you interact with the sages. I can't tell you how many times I was spamming the A button trying to pick up items/materials from enemies where I accidentally summoned a wind gust and blew all the items that I was trying to collect away. The combat is still as fun as it was in Breath of the Wild and I'm glad they added so much more depth through the new abilities and item interactions.

Standouts?: Holy cow, the physics engine that they put together for this game and Breath of the Wild are amazing. The physics, chemistry, and overall interactions are so interesting. Leaps and bounds better than most everything else I've played even though Nintendo isn't particularly know for their open world titles. I am glad that future Zelda games are going to be in this similar vein. The creativity that this allows for problem solving is extremely cool.

This game is very good. I had a great time with this and I suspect most other people will too. If you enjoyed Breath of the Wild this is a bigger, better version. Easy recommend.
