This was an important game from my childhood. I played it at home and then talked about it with friends on the playground. Before that, wanting this game so bad was what convinced my parents to get me an SNES. Needless to say I was stoked when this remake was announced! This write up will be far from unbiased, so I'll make it quick.

Wow they knocked this out of the park. The look and feel of the game are very faithful to the original even though they've upgraded the graphics. The characters look like fleshed out versions of their originals and the areas do too. I'm really impressed with how they kept the areas looking so similar when upgrading to more modern wider TVs. The fights feel good, I kinda liked the inclusion of the Combo meter and the Tri-Attacks. They kept the game feeling really breezy which was smoothing I liked in the original. I can see how this breezy nature could rub some people the wrong way with the full $60 price point, but I'm more time sensitive than money sensitive these days so I am on board with it. My wife has been playing Persona 4 while I worked through this game and man, I am glad I was playing SMRPG. Persona 4 seems great, don't get me wrong, but the amount of game there is daunting.

Big shout out to the remade music here. The original soundtrack plays rent free in my head all the dang time and I really enjoyed the updated feel of the tunes. I loved that you could switch back and forth in the menu between new and old soundtracks. It let me show off some of the older tunes and then we could talk about which songs we liked better. It was very often the newer ones, go figure. Anyway, I feel like I've gushed enough. This is a very good game! Easy way to get someone into RPGs I imagine. It's just so charming and easy to love.
