Kingdom Hearts 3 [revisit] + Re Mind

Release: 2020
Developer/Publisher: Square Enix
Gameplay Stats: 94 hours, 51/51 achievements, 2 game playthroughs, 1 DLC playthrough

Since this is a replay I will keep it short. I think this is a good Kingdom Hearts game. I am more partial to KH2 and I think it's because the world is smaller, which seems weird to write. I think KH3 feels a bit bloated. There is so much distance and so many encounters in between the meaningful content of the game. The story, the bosses, the interesting bits. I think the worlds all look great, but I think the game is bigger than it needs to be.

Now onto the DLC, the new bit to me. How did I like it? Honestly it was a bit disappointing to me. There are 3 distinct parts. The first one you get to play the ending of the game again with the option of playing as other characters instead of only Sora. Which is kinda neat I guess? Why not replace the end of the game with the new end? The story is a little different, but only slightly and there's a new SINGLE level to explore at the end. Doesn't really do anything new, just a single giant map that you will fly over to find the points of interest. I found this to be more annoying than anything else. The new level did look cool though, credit where credit is due.

The second part of the DLC was just fighting the data organization like it was in KH2. Fun fights but not a whole lot new. I guess some of the members of organization 13 were different than in 2, but they are mostly harder fights again from the end of the game. How many times do I need to play these dang fights? Also, you have to fight some allies?

The final part is just a singular really tough boss fight. I enjoyed this! The fight felt like some nonsense at some points, but overall I enjoyed it.

This is mostly positive stuff, I thought I said I was disappointed? Well. The DLC is all accessed through the main menu, doesn't feel integrated in the main game at all really. I quite liked what they did with KH2, just put a couple holes in walls and made a new area. It was neat. Very tidy. And then a warp to the superboss. My other complaint is that they added the pro-codes and tied achievements to it. The pro codes wall off mechanics of the game. Seems like a neat inclusion for expert level players! But it feels weird to tie an achievement to it. I didn't enjoy my time playing all of the super hard bosses without access to all the tools. The bosses were neat, but I don't think I'd recommend playing with the pro-codes. They did also include easy-codes to make the game easier and that might be the more fun way to play for new comers to the series. The codes are tied to a single decision at the start of the game which also seems weird to me. I dunno. Interesting content but poorly implemented overall.
